About Jessica Levant
Jessica is a native San Franciscan who has lived in New York and London for a total of 30 years. Always interested in art, she only began considering herself a serious artist after returning to San Francisco in the late nineties, re-designed her career and her life. She is mainly self-taught, though she has taken various classes in painting and photography over the years.
Jessica's tagline is 'Unexpected views of the ordinary - Ordinary views of the unexpected'. She loves finding new ways to share what she sees around her. Often that involves using filters to digitally manipulate her photographs, sometimes changing backgrounds or building composites of several images. Sometimes she merely changes colors. She is drawn to shapes, juxtapositions as well as visual irony, mostly in urban settings.
Her work has been accepted into dozens of juried shows and have won awards both in-gallery and online in photography contests. She has had 10 solo shows in the past 9 years, and participated in several small group shows in addition to her regular gallery showings.
Also an avid jazz lover, Jessica has published two photo books called San Francisco Bay Area Jazz and Bluesicians (Vol. 1 & 2) which together include 251 portraits of local musicians taken during performances, each accompanied by a bio. More on these books can be found at bayareajazzandbluesicians.com. Lastly, Street Seens, is a compilation of some street photography from around the world, published in 2011 and available from blurb.com.
